Measure your productivity!

Measurement is the first step that leads to control and eventually to improvement. If you can’t measure something, you can’t understand it. If you can’t understand it, you can’t control it. If you can’t control it, you can’t improve it.”
- H. James Harrington (Check out other quotes about performance measurement)

Recently I have been thinking on my productivity and thought it is good enough or I am way below what I am capable of. Although I don’t agree that working on a particular application window does not tell you how productive you are, it is good beginning how much time you spend on what. To measure how much time I spend on which application I have found this incredibly useful application: Time Snapper. It monitors and captures your screen and plays it any time you want. It can also capture just the window in focus and decrease total disk space it consumes. Since it is able save window titles, it can give you some reports that you can not believe!. Like when I saw how much time I spent on debugging versus development I get really amazed. Because it is aware of Visual Studio and its changing title to “(Debugging)” it can tell you how long you spent on debugging versus development. I urge you to check out its web page and features. Here are some screenshots: (following screenshots are taken from the Time Snapper web page)
